Gustavus football has enjoyed a rich history of success and stability over the years, having recently celebrated their 100th season. Our research chronicles how the program has progressed and evolved during the 1930s, 50s, 70s, 90s, and 2010s, in both their highs and their lows to understand what they have accomplished and what has shaped them over their century of existence. The first football team dates back to 1896. However the football team and other athletics were suspended in 1905 by Augustana Synod. In 1917, the ban was lifted and football along with other Gustavus athletics were reborn.
